A 24 day old baby girl had been airlifted from Tripura and admitted in Ruby General Hospital under the care of Dr. Parichaya Bera (Consultant Paediatrician) with a history of lethargy and very poor cry, abnormal respiration along with respiratory distress and generalised hardening of body for last 2 to 3 days making her stiff like a log. After initial treatment at a local hospital, the baby was shifted to a government medical college as her condition deteriorated followed by an episode of seizure and hypothermia (A condition when the core body temperature drops below 95 degree F). The condition of the baby had further deteriorated and had also been diagnosed with generalized sclerema. The condition known as Sclerema Neonatorum has a high mortality rate. Being aware that the possibility of improvement is negligible, yet, the paediatric team at Ruby General Hospital went all out for the baby holding on to the last straw of hope. The baby had been on CPAP and on failing to make channel, one USG guided CV line was done followed by PRBC and FFP transfusion. Haematologist and Paediatric Nephrologist opinions were taken and duly followed. The medical and nursing team of Ruby General Hospital kept on trying their best 24 x 7. Gradually, the baby girl improved and oxygen support was weaned off. After 23 days, she went home with her parents to make a complete and a happy family. The parents appreciated the relentless efforts of the Ruby Paediatric team and were very grateful that their child had been revived and their nil hope had been replaced by faith.
